Behind the scenes

Delicious (formerly del.icio.us) is a social bookmarking web service for storing, sharing, and discovering web bookmarks. The site was founded by Joshua Schachter in 2003 and acquired by Yahoo! in 2005. It has more than five million users and 150 million bookmarked URLs. It is headquartered in Sunnyvale, California.

Delicious uses a non-hierarchical classification system in which users can tag each of their bookmarks with freely chosen index terms (generating a kind of folksonomy). A combined view of everyone's bookmarks with a given tag is available; for instance, the tag wiki" displays all of the most recent links. Its collective nature makes it possible to view bookmarks added by similar-minded users. So similar is BlinkList.

PBworks (formerly PBwiki) is a commercial collaboration service created by David Weekly, with Ramit Sethi and Nathan Schmidt joining shortly thereafter as co-founders. Based in San Mateo, California, the company's original name stems from their belief that
"making a wiki is as easy as making a peanut butter sandwich"
The company operates on a freemium basis, with basic features being offered for free and more advanced features for a fee.
